How the marking works
- The piano plays with the microphone off. Then the screen counts you in and the microphone listens only while you sing or clap, so it hears you and not the piano.
- You see what it heard. Your singing is drawn as a line over the notes that were played; your claps are marked on the beat grid. If a mark looks wrong, say so and mark it yourself.
- Practice is saved for each student. Scores, dates and the areas to work on are kept in this browser, ready for a teacher.
Every phrase and passage is generated by this site for practice; no exam board's tests or books are copied. The marker hears pitch and timing only. It cannot judge tone, expression or musical sense; a teacher can.
The tests are practice in the style of the common Grade 1 to 3 aural tests, such as those of ABRSM. Auraldesk is not affiliated with ABRSM, Trinity College London, AMEB, RCM or any exam board.
Before your first test, run the microphone and speaker check. Every rule and tolerance is on how it works; the guides and the FAQ cover the rest.
